How do you disassemble ECM E61 mushroom valve

My approach to this is to stand the mushroom on a counter upside down and put a few drops of penetrating agent on the thread joint several times in 24 hours. Then stand it upside down in enough very hot water to submerge only the big nut. I set 2 dishes next to each other, replenish the hot water

Compak K3 Advanced Touch Owners?

It's built like a Sherman tank, works great, and is infinitely adjustable if you have a little patience. The grind collar takes a bit of force to get moving, so you can't just shift it 0.1mm at a time - you have to move well past the desired spot and then move it back with a watchful eye.

E61 Preinfusion

As an old auto racer who's built many cars, I've always been interested in the effects of shape on flow. Everything from carb intake horns and jets to fuel lines and fittings to combustion chambers and exhaust headers to parts protruding into the airstream can be optimally contoured for maximum flow...

E61 Preinfusion

I really appreciate your knowledge, skil and experience, Jake. I've enjoyed and learned from your posts over the years. But Bernoulli's equation is applied with validity and utility every day to real world systems in which there is some friction. "This discussion" of pressure and flow in brew paths ...

E61 Preinfusion

Thanks, Jake. But I think Bernoulli would have agreed with me. The pressure within and immediately after the constriction is lower in inverse proportion to the velocity of the moving fluid (which, in this instance, behaves like a gas). But this is only to maintain flow. As soon as the conduit widens...

E61 Preinfusion

Pressure is force per square area, eg pounds per square foot or kg per square cm. It is equal throughout a contained fluid, which is the basic principle of hydraulic lifts, elevators, brakes etc. As long as the cross sectional area of the fluid path is large enough throughout to allow the needed vol...

Routine E61 maintenance is well worth it - my espresso machine is new again!

As an old auto racer, I'm well schooled in proper monitoring, maintenance and renewal of vital organs in mechanical devices. So when I bought my Technika Profi IV in January 2017, I vowed to disassemble the group every year for inspection, cleaning, and light lube. And I "scheduled" replacement of t...

I need a pic of the inside of Eric's E61 thermometer

I only make medium roast classic espressos. Our house blend for about 2 years now is Paradise Nuevo, an outstanding example of a wonderful, boring old style I've been enjoying for decades. My wife even loves it ground for her drip machine. We're too set in our ways at this point to change, given tha...

I need a pic of the inside of Eric's E61 thermometer

Thanks, Jeff! I just fixed it and everything looks fine. I found it interesting that the white insulation on my probe wires (I see that some are black) was a bit browned near the board. I suspect that the cases, interiors and wiring on these Taylor thermometers were not designed for constant exposur...
