Mine was pretty stuck too, here's what worked for me and didn't require a torch or anything. I was careful to use wood to not damage the brass.
  • Remove the inner piston by taking out the circlip. I did end up just buying some special pliers for this task.

    That's normal - there is intentionally no spring in the portafilter to retain the basket. I leave the portafilter in the machine then dose, grind, and tamp directly into the basket. After pulling the shot, I remove just the basket and use a knockbox to remove the puck
