Best Coffee Cities in America 2023
Agree. Case-in-point: spending on coffee (three metrics) weighted up to a collective 21 points but a city-sponsored 'coffee event' get 7. This really pushes Hawaii down the list, since everything is more expensive and local crops (Kona and faux-Kona) are exported. Cost of living not factored into co...

Atlanta Roasters and Cafes
I am mentioning them only to dismiss them (strange, I know): PERC coffee. They get a mention because 1. a friend likes them, 2. they went from 2 to 5 locations in Atlanta, and 3. someone on this site recommended their Juggernaut roast to me. I tried to visit the Virginia Highlands cafe on Johnson bu...

Indonesian Toraja Mialo
{image} OK, back to the Mialo. (For previous discussions of recently acquired Indonesian roasts, see "Sumatra Dolok Sanggul" and "Sumatra Kerinci".) Medium roast. The bean was dense although not as dense as the Sanggul or Kerinci. I left the grinder alone. I changed to Perfect Hydration Alkaline Wat...

Sumatra Kerinci
This is a continuation of a previous thread about Indonesian coffees (see "Sumatra Dolok Sanggul") but I did not want to bury the next varietal under the previous title. This is about Sumatra Kerinci. It is also a dense bean, as the Mialo was, so I left the grinder unchanged. The first shot delivere...

Sumatra Dolok Sanggul
{image} My better half went to Bali to attend a meeting. It is a long airline trip from Atlanta, but somebody's got to do it. She had a day before the meeting started, so she bought herself a tour of the area, which consisted of temples and the Baturiti coffee plantation. She did not tell me about

How frequently do you switch up the roaster you buy from?
@LittleCoffee I agree with you. Having only one 'good' grinder, a new or different roast requires tolerating subpar or sink infusions all too frequently and with the costs of coffee rising it becomes an expensive indulgence to put yourself on the 'coffee dating circuit". That is the stick. The carro...

Cleaning exterior
agree with mreloc. you didn't say what the finish of your machine is. if it is chrome, polishing it with Simichrome can't be beat. if it is black plastic, Spray Nine and Goo Gone spray are great grease dissolvers

Budget espresso scale find
@jpender: I use my cell as a timer. I know they have a warranty but I have been conditioned to ignore warranties because of conditions (can I get it wet? or Not? It is called a jeweler's scale...), return postage, and other PIA issues. I just buy another one. Peace of mind. YMMV

Budget espresso scale find
Responding to the title: "budget espresso scale" it is surprising that the the Digitz DZ-1 by American Weigh Scales is not mentioned. They are not waterproof but at $9.99 (unchanged over the recent past) they last between 1 and 2 years and I always have 2 on hand in case one craps out. They fit unde...
