I did replace the base, but after taking the base apart I realised only the seal (between the base and the boiler) needs replacing. The rest of the base was perfectly okay, just need a bit of cleaning. I would suggest have a look at replacing the seal

Yeah like I said, the hole should face the barista, not the boiler, but the threads on the grouphead may not always be the same so there may be some variance. FWIW my original plastic sleeve had the inlet hole facing towards the barista. I don't think that was just luck
