~$7k budget for grinder and espresso machine: La Marzocco Linea Micra + Zerno Z1? Monolith Flat?

I was reading some forum posts over on the Kafatek forums as well -- I think you're right that the MC6 is getting great reviews for medium roasts and also does even better now on light roasts than it used to. For example, I was looking at this post: {link}. Because of this, I think the MC6 does fit my

How often do you clean your grinder, and do they get very dirty?

It varies by grinder. My Sette had to be cleaned out periodically, else it developed a rancid smell after many months of use. The cleaning had to include opening the case to sweep out fines that made their way out of the grinding mechanism. I've a theory that the case being plastic, contributed to the smell. On the other hand

Fellow Aiden anyone?

Exaclty. My morning V60 is my meditation. This should be ideal for guests/larger batches and fun to play with when I have the time. I wish I could get it in time for the summer!

The claim that perfect grinder alignment is insignificant

So although I have had many grinders in my lifetime, my last grinder, the Fellow Ode gen 1, is the design I am most familiar with. I also think from watching YouTube that its basic design is pretty standard for a lot of horizontal flat burr grinders. For example, my Timemore 078 looks similar but I haven't

Breville charcoal filters? And 54mm blind portafilter

Thanks @bean_thinking, good question and I updated my post that the filter is for the Breville Express, water tank. Yes, for the portafiler, it's odd Breville does not make a blind 54, but they do make for other units

Lelit Mara (PL62s) overheating

Since the machine is a fairly standard dragon HX, there is no regulation of the brew temperature. So, the issue is most likely the service boiler getting too hot (higher in pressure), due to a stuck pressurestat. If the pressurestat in that machine is mounted to the boiler (EG, like Maters usually are), then swap it out. If it is

The craziest %#*$ing thing I've seen all day...

Darker roasted coffee has both more and less caffeine. It depends on how you make your coffee. If by scoop you get less caffeine since darker roasted coffee expands more so you get fewer beans than if you make it by weight. By weight, darker roasted coffee beans are lighter so you get more beans per batch and more caffeine

Help with spritzers- puck prep

Hi, I am getting spritzers every 2nd cup and the occasional fast pour despite my best efforts. My setup is Lelit Mara, Timecore 087s grinder, bottomless PF, 18-21g triple basket dosed to 18g (basket states it's a 18-21g). My goal is 27g's in 22-25 seconds starting point on a dark roast.

Breville charcoal filters? And 54mm blind portafilter

My machine doesn't have the filter at all. Just put good water in the tank. Does your machine require a filter to be present? Maybe you can remove the internals of one to trick it. I have used both the no-name Amazon PFs (~$30) and the Crema one ($80). The no-name isn't a perfect fit and

How often do you clean your grinder, and do they get very dirty?

There's nothing wrong with cleaning regularly for peace of mind. But does it really matter, taste-wise? As always, I find actual blind taste tests more convincing than anecdotal evidence. Otherwise, such claims remind me of hyperbolic YouTube videos... Clean your grinder, it's a GAME CHANGER!
