How to find zen in espresso?

The parameter space of shot making variables, e.g. does, grind setting, etc., is a state space: each possibility is a simple point, and there are no arrows pointing to which way might be better. The parameter space of taste is a phase space: each possible combination of bitter, sour, sweet, umami, florals, spices, etc., does have an arrow attached to...

New Eureka Mignon Single Dose Grinder

Eureka never disappoint in predictability, now that is the third iteration of their Mignon in the Odo line, all boosting the exact same motor and burr set up. I wander what difference there is between this and the XL besides shininess, but if that isn't some unobtanium then it's not a real stark grinder.

[FS] Decent Espresso Machine DE1 XL 110V v1.42

Hello, I'm selling my DE1 XL. Shot count is 249 and it was purchased in May 2021. I've just realized that I prefer pour over and aeropress. Small chip in back plate and drip tray is stained a bit (I don't notice it when the metal tray is on). Includes: DE1 XL 110V v1.42 Milk Jug Thermometer 15, 18, and...

How to find zen in espresso?

I think you are in touch with the lever that produces the pressure. And you literally pour the water into it. But there are blind spots with an all manual machine that are difficult to avoid. Even though it's more techy a Decent machine would give you control that a manual machine lacks. You'd be more in touch without actually...

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

Hey guys I think some of the CG resources are missing. I spent all night looking through all the old stuff but I can't seem to find something that might just also not be there because it's simple/self explanatory enough. I'm wondering if I need to replace all the seals, is there an image or video that can show me...

My Take on Vibration Distribution

Tweaked my back over Thanksgiving, so had a couple of weekends to tackle a project that has been in my mental rolodex for quite some time. I've experimented with all different techniques to create the perfect puck, and finally settled on my daily routine which is WDT while tapping the portafilter multiple times on the pad, followed by leveling then...

Need help fixing espresso that I THINK is over extracted

Guys, I thought I'd show you what my puck looks like after extraction: is that small hole a sign of channeling? I noticed I tamped crooked for this shot. I tried to fix it but I've heard that you really have only one chance to do your tamp properly. I'm trying to tamp like the guy in the video above...are...

How to find zen in espresso?

This sounds a lot like my experience so far. I started out with the assumption that any coffee could be dialled in, in principle. And while it may be true that most beans that are sold as espresso can be dialled in as espresso for some palate, it's not necessarily the case that they can be dialled in for mine,...
