Weber Moonraker? - Page 20
I will not have espresso at a cafe unless the prep has included the Moonraker. It would be beneath my dignity.... and certainly, my fine palate would detect the difference.Primacog wrote:On the other hand greater weight of thr moonraker increases friction and the more inefficient method of turning tbe needles whereby one turns it by turning rhe dial of the device itself means that one has to expend more effort and take up more time to achieve the same number of turns.
The etsy device from CoffeetoolsCA on the other hand is lighter but it has a more efficient spinning motion because the needles are spun by a handle that is whipped around by your finger. Though it doesn't have the fit and finish of the moonraker, ut does have the same randomised motion as the moonraker and costs only 1/10 /the cost of the moonraker. As a result I suspect the etsy device actually performs better than the moonraker though the moonraker will have a psychologically far more favourable effect.
On the other hand I believe manual wdt with needles when done well will always give the best results compared to any such semi automatic tool.

There's clearly enough of a market to sell luxury priced "feel good" items like super expensive "distributors", tampers, wdt tools with extravagant woods etc. It's never about function with these devices. They rarely, if ever, actually do a better job than the "workman" counterpart you can grab for far less.Primacog wrote:On the other hand greater weight of thr moonraker increases friction and the more inefficient method of turning tbe needles whereby one turns it by turning rhe dial of the device itself means that one has to expend more effort and take up more time to achieve the same number of turns.

I just recently recieved this tool from Etsy and it is an idiot proof wdt device. Exactly what I was looking for. As would be the Moonraker if I wanted to pony up the dough for the feels. Just like a self levelling tamper. It takes the human error effectively out of the equation and just asks you to do something simpler than what you're used to IMHO. Sure you can stir your grounds without these devices and get the same results, but you have to be more considerate of what you're doing.
The coffeetoolsCA device doesn't have the status of a $500 device, but it's still leagues nicer than what I was using and is idiot proof. He updated the device and installing the needles is now as simple as dropping them in.
The only thing that really bothers me is that these needles are sharp instead of dull. Seems like a really terrible accident waiting to happen.

I think some fine grit sandpaper will help. I'll let you know.Spitz.me wrote: The only thing that really bothers me is that these needles are sharp instead of dull. Seems like a really terrible accident waiting to happen.

I sometimes accidentally get poked in the hand with my upright dollar store champagne cork accupunture needle WDT tool. It does double for a good tense muscle massager, though.

Why make it depth adjustable if it supports their ecosystem of products?
I have to say that this pricing is in line with the egregiously priced OCDs that do next to nothing of realizable value. At least this does something of real value IMHO.

Don't do it, unless looks of the device is super important.Capuchin Monk wrote:Maybe, if they make it depth adjustable and reduce the price in half.
Family, coffee and fun.
