Don't know anything about SCA conventions but if they're anything like home appliance type conventions that always seemed to have the last stay sharp forever knife you will ever need demonstration booth, the one that did everything to shame drop forged steel kitchen knives with a tomato cutting competition, I thought more than once what it would be like to take a cold steel drop forged kitchen knife hand sharpened to a razor's edge to the booth and fine slice a tomato with the weight of the knife alone.

Drop forged steel, cork accupunture needle WDT; simple, balanced, hand tuned lifetime precision. Pinhead's preferred choice
The wdt tool manually used well is already at the top of what is probably possible in distribution. However the key is to do it well every time to the same degree. This is qhy if we can automate the hand movements using the wdt cork and needles, that us were the benefit lies for these automatic devices.

Hey brother, unfortunately I haven't used it yet but planning on pre-ordering one with the brass cogs for July/August delivery

Damn, that's awesome. Way cheaper than that expensive tool too.

Interesting thread and new product... I was impressed with this and wanted the premium brass gear version, but it is not available in the size I need (54mm) for my Dalla Corte Mina... Alas, I just saved myself a few bucks that can go towards another Mazzer ZM grinder that will be setup exclusively for pour over, with my beloved 100% Hawaiian Kona beans.

(I'm aware that I can get a 58mm optional basket for my Mina, but I'm sticking with the 54mm for now...)

Cheers!

Folks,

Interesting discussion.

Moonraker.

I'm looking for continued references to the moonraker and not finding them.

Shall I split this off to keep the conversation going?

54mm vs 58mm discussion split off to 54mm Vs 58mm baskets.

I ordered a Moonraker Ultra when this last preorder opened up for August delivery. Totally over the top? Yep. But if it feels good to use and does the job as well as my manual WDT, then at the very least it can clean up my workflow some by replacing 2 tools (WDT and funnel).

Also went ahead and ordered a Unibasket to go along with it so we'll see how that goes.

Chris - I got a Unibasket about four months ago and have been using it daily. Be prepared to waste a few shots dialing it in with your grinder. I mention this only because it took me several shots before I started feeling comfortable with it. Now it's all I use.

Back on topic, my son in law who joined me at the recent SCA show, just surprised me yesterday by giving me an Ultra when they become available. Here I thought it was just my daughter who is blessed to have him in her life.
