Synesso ES.1 Unboxing and First Impressions - Page 5
I just measured mine, and the highest part of the screen is just under 17.25" above the countertop. In terms of the Synesso ES.1, I was hoping you can tell me the exact height dimension to the top of the screen? Their dimension drawings on their website say 18", but the text specs say 17.5

Thank you sir!! That puts the ES.1 in official contention. I honestly am not sure I can go wrong between the Sanremo YOU and the ES.1. Honestly, the 10-week wait could be the deal breaker as I am not at all blessed with patience...Especially if somebody is going to have $9,000 of my money

I got 440mm or about 17.32 inches to the top of the screen.makarkka wrote:I just measured mine, and the highest part of the screen is just under 17.25" above the countertop.
The top of the screen bezel was about 12.2inches from the back of the machine, but angled back of the screen casing was less than 12".
The steam wand extended out to it's max angle does go a decent amount above the screen, but is more than 12" from the back of the machine.
It sounded like they were down to a 3-week build window now that they got through the initial orders. I would call and confirm with a sales rep. I ordered July 21st and it shipped September 7th. Most of that wait time was waiting on the final UL inspection approval.Scott_29 wrote:Thank you sir!! That puts the ES.1 in official contention. I've only had one bad shot that met the sink, and it was my first shot attempt on the machine. I can't remember what I did during the brew, but had only 22g in the cup with an 18g doseBaristaBoy E61 wrote: Most importantly, how's the coffee; how's the machine's forgiveness factor? How are you doing with the milk steaming and the whole milk thing?

I finally started trying a few programmed shots:
- First shot was short on volume in the cup, but part of that was probably due to me leaving out my puck screen on the programmed pull.
- Second programmed shot (different shot program) was over by 2 grams with the same dose, puck prep, and no screen
I'll be playing with it more, but so far I've enjoyed manual mode more than the programmed shots. Starting my steam while pulling the shot was nice little time saver though. Milk drinks have been tasty. I'm still getting used to how quickly I can steam 180ml of milk and have been melting my hand a bit with how fast it goes from 100F to 145F.
Taste wise, even with my temperature set at 92.8C, its still so much hotter in the cup than what I could get with boiling water going into my Flair 58. That has taken a bit to get used to, I'm still burning my mouth a bit on initial sips. Espresso quality has been great with the medium roast Guatemala beans I've been using. I'll be picking up some other options tomorrow.
Have you experimented with lower pressure shots? For example can you do a long pre-infusion followed by max 6-7 bar shot? Hope you are enjoying your new machine!
I haven't been able to do really long pre-infusions with the minimum pressure at 3.5bar. Its usually a 7-9 second pre-infusion. Then I have brew pressure set to 7.2 bar and ramp down at 6 bar for all my shots. I haven't been brewing at 9 bar. I do have a new blend of beans that I will experiment with at 9 bar brew pressure though.
I have had some issues with brew valve plunger not re-seating after a shot completes about 10%-15% of the time. Its very noticeable, it causes the rotary pump to turn on briefly every half second to re-pressurize the line. It usually seals after I run a purge, but I have had to run the machine with an empty portafilter a time or two to get it to seal. Synesso has been working with me on this, and I'm waiting to hear back from their engineering team.

thanks for the info, nice to hear you have a decent degree of control over the brewing process. hopefully you get your brew valve plunger fixed!

Thanks for sharing your experience thus far, such limited info on the ES.1. I also find the YOU vs ES.1 comparison interesting. What pushed you toward the ES.1?Sivs wrote:I honestly compared the San Remo YOU to the ES.1 more than the Decent.

Any thought as to why the current available pressure range is limited to 3.5-9.5 bar?Jake_G wrote:Thanks for this picture.
It shows the heart of profiling capabilities, which appears to be a proportional solenoid valve teed into the discharge of a normal, tried and true Fluid-O-Tech rotary pump.
This emails how you can set the pressure in the firmware, rather than having to adjust the bypass valve on the pump.
Handy.
Synesso provided a full replacement machine. I received it today, and will hopefully have it setup later tonight. Serial number increase was pretty limited, so still not many of these out in the wild yet.
