Going on 10 years with the GS/3. Never looked back.

After a short time with Silvia, I decided that it was better to invest my time and money in learning how to select the best coffee and how to brew the best cup, instead of spending time and money trying to compensate for the shortcomings of the machine. My feeling was that the the extra price of the GS/3 was offset by avoiding the inevitable financial losses and hassles that come with a series of incremental upgrades, especially since I knew I would eventually end up with a top-of-the-line machine.

Besides, I got it for about 30% off street price. That's because it was one of the infamous fire sale machines, and I paid for the fat discount with substantial time repairing and upgrading it! While those tasks were challenging at times, I had great support from my dealer (Chris Coffee) and LM USA. I'm actually glad it happened that way because I know my machine inside out -- enough to be able to diagnose and fix anything that can go wrong, and enough to have modified it with a gear pump and electronics to do pressure/flow profiling. I haven't seen anything in other top-of-the-line machines that would cause me to "upgrade".

When I was about 13 years old, I was in the studio audience of the Noon Show at WSM-TV in Nashville, Tennessee, and I won the door prize drawing for an electric coffee percolator. I promptly sold it to a friend of my parents for about $10. Over the years, I had a variety of inexpensive drip coffee makers, but I don't remember the years or specific brands. Below is a list going back to 1995. The only two I still have are the Londinium and Cremina.
