In the earlier thread John said he couldn't get certification if he let it work with any tablet so it needs to be a supplied tablet. Can't have a machine doing stupid things when the phone rings or becomes out of reach.

Also, it seems to me that if it lives up to its promise, it will become the $2000 machine to buy if your concern is making the best possible espresso. What would it take to beat a Decent and a Pharos at a combined price of $2500?

RyanP wrote:That would be pretty sad if Decent delivers a groundbreaking machine that is reliable and offers all the features promised, but doesn't manage to sell for $2200, a mere fraction of the price of its $10K+ competitors, just because it's not covered in chrome. I have a hard time believing that will be the case, but I guess we'll see.
I respect efforts made by Decent team. Unfortunately, many good things don't sell and many bad things sell exceptionally well ... it's not only about good coffee, for instance 99.99% people in my county don't care about that at all, they happily drink extra stale pre-ground turkish, with only thing being important that it is black in color ... but it's about various subjective things that make people happy. That said, if mass produced, this 2 pump, several sensors, electric heated brew group thermocoil technology could be made for several hundred €/$ ... but other manufacturers obviously decided that extra pump and other items wont bring the money back ... so I think the market will be quite limited

If I'm more happy with coffee made with Flair (and previously with home made machine at 1/10 of its price) than with coffee offered in my roaster's cafe made on his 10k+ machine, why would I spend 2K on this ? It would be only those shiny parts and nice buttons that could convince me ...

Maybe looking it another way. At this point de1+ is not seeking to target a particular market segment but instead is creating a totally new market segment...

Some de1+ features are totally unheard off in the current coffee scene, there is a big question mark on how we are going use these data and feedback provided. I believe as more of such machines come online with increased discussion, playing, videos, product updates, experimenting a whole new market segment will be born.

This is a market that is in it's infancy, but I expect it to grow.

What I'm staring to wonder, is with all this control at my fingertips, is if I'll start chasing different "hybrid" beverages. Not quite espresso, not quite drip coffee. But if the machine can hold up to the abuse, what's to stop someone from placing a Aeropress filter in the bottom of a basket and crafting a brew with crazy precision? It's something I'm thinking about trying.

I pulled a shot of the fresh crop Juan Pena from Ecuador, and was blown away by the way the cinnamon "spice" highlight came thru with such clarity.

I think it is no longer enough to state EY and CBR. I think we need to start talking about PI volume and rate and extraction profile.

Exciting time for the hobby!

This thread is suppose to be a review of the DE1+. I want to hear more about the machine as opposed to whether there is a market for the machine.

+2 here. Let's discuss the review. I'm pretty sure this forum is the market for this machine. If the DE1PRO+ works like it's suppose to, I'll be happy to have one sitting right beside my GS3.

Yup, if this thing does what it says, it'd be the first pump machine I'd consider worth owning, at least below 7k and maybe at all. And, frankly, it's way better looking than the gaudy chrome machines.

Have you found anything interesting about puck prep effects on flow yet? I know Rao posted some things about methods that increased (downward taps, swiping, changing weight in pf) vs decreased (stirring, shaking, side taps) volatility, and Perger was surprised to find nutating actually decreased volatility.

Also, I don't imagine it's likely, but I really hope they keep making uncertified versions too so someone can make a bluetooth paddle controller that turns it on and varies pressure.

Care to share dose and machine perimeter settings?
