Rebuilding La Marzocco GS/3 Conical Valve
Any thoughts as to when it's really necessary? Mine is about two years since I upgraded to the conical.
It's nice and smooth and no leaks that the moment.

General guidance is to rebuild when it is sticky or it is leaking.
The conical valve was developed specifically to not need the frequent repairs that the old MP needed.
If it ain't broke...
Cheers!

yea, before i updated to the conical, i would service it mostly based on leaks. So unless it's acting up, I wouldn't touch it.

I bought GS3 MP when it first came out with the new conical valve in 2016, and typically pull 3 to 4 drinks a day on it. I've not had any issues with the conical valve and it's worked consistently throughout. I expect that with my lower volume, compared to using this in a small cafe, it will last a long time. I have had to rebuild my steam valve twice, mostly because of the wear on the lever / cam mechanism that is used to push the valve open. I also updated my vacuum breaker to the new "solid state" style.
