I just got my strega early this week. Really glad that I waited for almost two years to get a semipro machine. :) I have been using bottled water and I think it has plenty of minerals and scale easily.

I found this water softener cartridge on ebay but I guess I need this adapter kit to put it in. I can't find it anywhere else which can ship it here. Strega doesn't use that little hose to draw water from the tank. If only I can find what kind of this copper adapter type maybe I can do it on my own.

Have anyone use a water softener cartridge or any other means on strega before?

I see. I found something similar too here
Just wondering if someone has used the cartridge type on a strega before. The cartridge type looks more legit :D No? :lol:

Thanks for posting about filters y'all
Question
Are you filtering for better tasting water or to eliminate chemicals which cause scaling? I use Volvic water in
My Strega. One of the lowest magnesium and calcium counts. But a filter would not hurt
The German filter sold by Stoll looks interesting I
Wonder if it is available in the US?

I used the intank pouches for a long time. Really liked them but watch out they need a couple of hours for the water to descale in the tank. I always put the pouch in a waterjug (like the one from Brita) and kept that in the refrigerator. When the water level in the tank gets low just refill and refill the jug and put it back. That way you always have descaled water.

Thats a good way to have descaled water. How do you know that its already time to change the pouch? Does the color of the pack change or you just keep tap of the frequency you refill manually?

I am also using for the last 3 years, BILT Oscar 150 Water Softener, permanently into the tank;
I am using it combined with a bottled (5 l can) mineral water (called 'Bucovina', here in RO, Europe - dry residual: 78 mg/l, PH: 7.35) with quite low magnesium (2.55 mg/l) and calcium (9.85 mg/l), which alone would sufice for the soft water I need;

anyway, the water is quite pleasant for drinking too, and we adopted it before using into the Bezzera (Magica, then Strega) water tank!
the tap water here is 7-8 German degrees, and 410 max treated liters are covering the 1 year usage (5-7 doubles a day, no flushes between);
my Strega has almost 2 years of usage and I do not see any sign to require a descaling yet;

Just keep track of the time of use. No indicator when to change other than that.
