La Marzocco Linea Micra - Page 102
^that is great news
Last I heard graphene was still a marketing ploy and not superior to traditional ceramic even though touted as such. I especially don't trust anything adam's since he sold the company and have turned into a chemical guys of sorts.

Anyone keep an iPad dedicated to their Micra? Any setup suggestions so it turns on with the machine via app?
Hello all, new to this forum here.
I've just had delivery of a Linea Micra, and have started playing around with it.
I've just upgraded from a basic Smeg espresso machine/grinder, and I am still using the Smeg grinder. Pulled a shot, and the flow was very fast. I've been following basic puck prep such as grinding 17-18grams, using a WDT tool and a distributor, before I tamp it down, and the flow is crazy fast. In around 20 seconds, more than 100 grams is extracted. I've tried changing the grind settings, changed puck prep but it still results in a very fast flow. The beans are about a month old. Now, I am a novice when it comes to the espresso game, so I suspect I may be doing something incorrect, but has anyone else faced this issue
I also realise the Smeg grinder is not great, and have ordered the Varia VS3, but that doesn't come until May, but I'll be surprised if the fast flow is due to the grinder, and it not being able to grind that fine. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

If the grinder on its finest setting can't choke the machine, then it is the grinder, unfortunately.

Thanks, that's reassuring as I feared the worst and thought it was a machine malfunction. Hoping the Varia VS3 will do the trick, just need to wait until May. In the meantime, are there any grounded coffee that works well with the Linea Micra?
Thanks
Thanks
Agreed on a few fronts here.meshkaffe wrote:^that is great news

We are getting off topic, but Adams does still have a few good products (Total Interior Detailer in particular is good and is my go-to interior product for larger projects since I can't buy Gyeon Interior Detailer in gallons). Though I have no experience with their particular coatings so I can't really speak to their quality and longevity, I've also only heard graphene to be marketing hype. I'm glad that others have had a good experience with it.

Unfortunately, not as delivered.Shokoth wrote:Thanks, that's reassuring as I feared the worst and thought it was a machine malfunction. Hoping the Varia VS3 will do the trick, just need to wait until May. In the meantime, are there any grounded coffee that works well with the Linea Micra?
In the meantime, you can buy a 58mm pressurized basket to use with your current grinder and/or pre-ground coffee, for example, https://www.bluestarcoffee.eu/Mobile/en ... -2979.aspx (link for info only; this is not a vendor recommendation).
However, please do not expect anything resembling good espresso until you get a better grinder.

Hi all,
It's almost a month mark for me as a LMLM user, and I love it so far. Anyway, I am curious few things regarding cleaning.
1. How often do you clean the machine? I use 1-2 times a day so not sure if a month is a long wait to clean?
2. Do you fill it with water you use for making coffee to backflush, or is tap water ok?
3. The cleaning tip I saw from LM video was backflush and cleaning equipment. Do you tend to clean others too like a water tank and others?
Thank you!!

As I belatedly found out
, pages 16-17 in the manual cover 1. and 3., above. As you are using the machine about half as often as their usage, I would suggest doing their "Cleaning (Daily)" maintenance every second or third day. However, I also always do the second step of "Cleaning (Daily)" right after every session of making coffees, but I do not use cleaning powder and repeat the process three-to-five times (The manual says "several times.") I will use the cleaning powder on the second/third day. I only use the app's automated backflush when I use the cleaning powder.
Note that there is a typo in my manual: the second-last sentence in the first paragraph should read, "Rinse thoroughly with clean water puro caff."
For 2., I use the water that I use for making coffee. My rationale is some of La Marzocco's water specifications are to protect the machine, e.g., very little, and preferably no, chlorides.

Immediate reactions:
Portafilter: I was immediately concerned that it doesn't go past 7 o'clock. This is normal after asking a friend and reviewing the forum.
Group head clearance: Yes, it is tight. Scale + NotNeutral Vero Cortado glass barely fits with naked portafilter. I've begun to think of some options, including custom drip tray with a Acaia Pyxis, or maybe some higher "Liftoff legs" with a Scale Stand. Maybe I'll just stop using a scale.
Steam wand: I've had no issue with it being too short. It's 360 movement is wonderful.
Machine depth: It's deeper than I would've preferred. I know I measured, and it does fit, but worth measuring again if you haven't.
LM Phone App: Absolute garbage. It technically works, but I have had to force quit it many times. It has a 1.2 star review on the App Store and it definitely deserves it. I'm hoping to not have to use it now that I've set the machine up.
Tamper: While pretty, the included tamper is ergonomically awful. It also leaves a lot of grinds on the sides of the basket. I'd recommend planning on getting a different one.
Cup warmer: Gets too hot in my opinion. I'll be looking for some sort of mat to insulate, as I'm worried about kids touching it.
Finishing: No issues with stainless swirl marks. Perfectly polished. Even all my screw's line up perfectly in direction. Absolutely incredible attention to detail.

After a few weeks of use:
Group head clearance: I've just been using cheap thin scales from Amazon. Anything too large I just set the scale off to the side and use a timer only. There is so much repeatability, and the machine is so "forgiving" that you really do not need to weigh every output.
Group head cleaning: I've been using a single paper filter on top. Would recommend not for taste, but for cleanliness if fits your workflow. 17g in the 17g basket will leave residue otherwise.
Tamper: Replaced with Force Tamper.
Milk jug: I've found my previous Breville milk jug to be much more forgiving with the ridiculous steam power vs the LM pitcher, or my (also small) WPM pitcher.
LM Phone App: Still is terrible. I've used it more than I expected. Turns out if you have the app open, the app will automatically pop up a timer for the shot. I don't use it this way, but an interesting easter egg.
On/Off/Standby: I've found that the thing that works best for me is to always leave the machine on, but leave a short "stand-by" time of 20 minutes. This way the auto on/off in the morning works. If you want a quick coffee in the middle of the day, you just toggle the machine off and on, and it will warm right back up.

I reached out to LM a few weeks ago to ask about a second Micra portafilter, a plumb kit, and a few other things. From their response:
I've really enjoyed stalking these Micra threads.
This machine is truly a work of art, and it just consistently pumps out great espresso.
If you can swallow the price, you won't be disappointed. Stay patient!

I reached out to LM a few weeks ago to ask about a second Micra portafilter, a plumb kit, and a few other things. From their response:
-We do not have any of the convertible portafilters for sale at the moment but both our double spouted and bottomless portafilters will work on the micra if you wanted to order an extra.
We do not have an exact eta on the micra plumb in kit. It is likely still a few months out. We will post on our website and social media when we have them ready.
