glad you merged me up. i wish i had actually looked around instead of posting.
i was mid-cafiza backflushing. actually done with the cafiza then getting ready to switch to the water "rinse" cycle. the lever got squeakier and squeakier. i posted and went back to flushing. thinking ill come back to an answer and work it out.
i got done and did the ole "seasoning" shot. less squeak but still there. about 3 more shots and the squeak is very minimal. does the build up of coffee oils actually provide a primitive lubrication?
this is working fine now and i don't think ill pull it apart. not yet at least.

It does. After a backflush on a lever actuated E61 machine, the lever will probably feel stiff and/or squeak. A few shots later and it will likely be back to normal.
