I was picking up some electrical supplies at Lowes and came across these in a pack of 3 for $10. I didn't know how well the mounting strips that came with them would hold up to the heat & moisture, so I used the same high strength adhesive strip I bought for assembling a plexiglass shower enclosure I made for our master bath. Each takes one AA battery. They illuminate the shot well even into a 2 oz cup sitting on a riser - I love 'em!

They look good and seem to do the job.

HERE'S the manufacturer's site. This 3 pack is called "drawer lights" - click on the lower right image. The 6" bar also looks great for machines with more space, but it doesn't fit between the grouphead and the back wall on Oscar.

Amazon and others have several other options from tiny to 12" long, all battery powered and all in the same price range.

I've been trying to find something similar that might work well for e61 machines, levers, or any machine really that is essentially a stainless steel faceplate with a group sticking out of it. I am thinking it might have to mount to the edge of the drip tray and point up at the group.

If there's enough room on the panel you can use Scotch VHB tape on the side of the light(s) to secure them with lights pointing down. This stuff is great and comes in multiple widths for any job. Of course, if you do that, you have to have enough clearance above the light to slide the back off for battery replacement.

The biggest benefit for me has been the ability to see well inside the cup while the shot is forming and running. I've spotted early spitting on the side or edge of the cup when I get channeling (fortunately very infrequently) and was able to avoid a mess by shutting off the pump. And I don't keep my scale on the drip tray once I get my beans dialed in, so I stop the shot by watching the level in the cup.

You could also use tiny but bright LED reading lamps on a flexible stalk fastened to the sides of the machine with the same mounting tape. If the SS is sufficiently ferrous, you could also use a small LED work light with a magnetic base like this one for $20 at Amazon. And that VHB (very high bond) tape would almost certainly hold it if the magnet won't.

That said, for my my extraction illumination needs it would be a little overkill. I think I'm going to give the bendy booklight things a try.
