Wow first thing I recognized was the Turnigy battery. Do you have it connected to an ESC with a low voltage shut off? Looks awesome.

Both devices cut battery power via the LED illuminated power switch. There is, however, a brushed motor ESC in the espresso machine and a brushless ESC in the grinder. Side note, both devices use the same battery size /shape for easy swap and charging.

Thanks, but it is smoke n mirrors at best. The paper-backed wood veneer covering hid all the printing flaws. Veneer, Super glue and some Watco Danish oil can do wonders.

The portable espresso uses an MG200 series gear pump made in Italy by Fluid-o-tech found in the Modbar / LaMarzocco machines. If you dig deep into the internets you'll come across part replacement diagrams showing the pump. They aren't cheap by any means which keeps this machine from becoming a real consumer item. (but it was never my intention to design a commercial machine... not my cup of tea). The -very- rough retail price of a new pump and motor assembly will run you close to $1k. The 12v brushed motor is made by KAG Germany and comes as one unit with the gear pump.

The ESP32 CPU chip has an Arduino PID library that compares target and actual pressure and sends the appropriate signal to a PWM motor controller. The pressure sensor is a 10mm pressure sensor sitting on top of the "group head" with a small hole drilled to the portafilter screen area which makes this a fairly accurate puck pressure sensor rather than water pressure sensor. Three design iterations first using a simple motor driver FET bridge, then a higher current 10A FET driver, and then the final design simply uses an RC brushed motor controller capable of 50A peak. Apparently that KAG motor is spec'd at 2.8A max continuous but is capable of 10A bursts, and possibly higher spikes I didn't measure. Hence, the burned FET drivers. More simply put, in very rough touchy feely numbers, think of 130psi in a few seconds and sustaining it for 20 more seconds... that will be some amps and the KAG spec sheet doesn't paint a complete picture.

All of this was built during lock-down and severe supply chain issues so I had to use what was easily available to me either in my junk pile of parts or what was available online. So components in the device are far from optimal but they're happy enough.

I'd crack it open for more photos but the insides are quite embarrassing as things were crammed into the body to make things fit. It is not easily serviceable and I don't have photos of assembly... sorry. Hope this was somewhat informative.

Anyhow this might be Kickstarter worthy project start up that can get funding to be mass produced,

Ain't gonna be me, but I hope someone makes something similar for those who need a portable solution similar to this workflow... and battery powered. This was the reason to showcase this little device in hopes someone takes it to the next level for everyone to enjoy.
