E61 brew pressure and temperature sensor idea

I was looking at the thermometer for the e61 grouphead. Haven't seen a solution for temp and pressure in 1.
These exist for other purposes. Obviously wrong units for pressure but easy conversion. Would this work if it were changed from 1/4" to M6 or is it completely incorrect and wouldn't work.
PIC Gauge TRI-RC-254R3.63-D 2-1/2" Dial Size, 1/4" Male NPT Connection Size, Stem Length 3.63 inches, 0/75 psi Range, Commercial Tridicators with Black Steel Case, Bronze Internals, Plastic Lens with Red Indicator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FBQAV98/

While this has been mentioned before - I LIKE this idea!

Would be nice if a solution existed. But this gauge would not be accurate enough for temp. Really the range you are interested in is about 190-205f. This range is so small on this gauge you'd never match the accuracy of Eric's thermometer. Eric has parts where you can quickly remove the temp sensor to insert pressure. Would be nice If HX manufacturers would admit temp monitoring is necessary and provide a way to do that so the E61s flow mod could have both. I'd never remove my temp monitoring for pressure.

What if you had a DB machine?

Yes.. an E61 DB is more predictable.. I'd be comfortable using the pressure dial only there.BaristaBoy E61 wrote: What if you had a DB machine?

Unfortunately the pressure gauge range is off by about 1/2 what it would need to be too (10 bar = 145 psi).
I too would love to see this idea honed for an E61 though.

It's not that hard to make a dual read gauge.
I created one and been looking at that thing for quite a while.
Manufacturers of gauges dont want to mess around with something like this, so the biggest problem is not how to make it, rather how can you make A LOT in a good period of time.
The temp readings need to be electronic, not analog for sure.
Also you need to change the battery sometime, so the thing is you cannot just squeeze in a metal case, some analog pressure reading and an electronic temp motherboard.
I would be happy to share what i have up until now with somebody that maybe is more into this and make something good of it, like i did with other stuff.
Thanks.

I had the Vibiemme double boiler and I had Eric's thermometer on it and would never consider trading it for a pressure gauge. While knowing the temperature of the water in a separate brew boiler is good, knowing the temperature of the water in (and going through) the group just before it hits the coffee is more important. You can guess with a flush of "X" seconds, but you can know exactly how long to flush (or even if a flush is required) without guesswork using the group thermometer.
With that said, if you add the manual flow control device to the top cap of the group, it would be beneficial to have a pressure gauge, but I would rather guess at pressure than guess at temperature. On the other hand, if it meant I would have to manually move a lever control for every single extraction throughout the extraction's time span, and try to do it repeatedly, I might as well either buy a lever machine (quite affordable), or one with programmable pressure profiling built in (generally not as affordable).
That ramble partially describes where I am presently at. I have been going over machines and have a list of about eight or nine machines that easily tempt one to write a check, and in some cases, a big one.

Does your dual gauge widget screw into the hole in an E61 group-head? You somehow need 2 sensors that you can get into the group. Add to that you have a digital display with 2 separate numbers and gotta think that is pretty tough to create in small volumes. You should post a pic of what you have.CoffeeSensor wrote:It's not that hard to make a dual read gauge.

I think the evolution of machines is going more towards the Decent design than the traditional E61 designs.. And their v1.3 with the group head that can do everything without the tablet looks absolutely amazing ... but if manufacturers want to get longer life out of their traditional metal, they need to add temperature and pressure sensing right in the group. They can then use the existing pressure gauge (analog and pretty useless except when you backflush and want to set your max pressure.. Profitec pressure gauge never displays the actual group pressure except when backflushing) and use the PID display to give the group temp.. There is really no need to always display the temperature of one of the boilers; maybe just use one of the PID buttons to access if needed.
I think then I'd consider their mechanical flow restrictor machine that gives some flow profiling. But until better sensing is added, I would not purchase another "metal" machine; especially at the high prices of today.

It will be great if you could create a dual read gauge and sell it with the flow control kit:CoffeeSensor wrote:It's not that hard to make a dual read gauge.
