Peter (pcrussell50), or anyone else - Have you seen this type of leak with the BDB? The side of the steam boiler leaks and causes condensation inside.
  • Do you know what the o-ring sizes are for the various connections - both the red arrow and larger ones?
  • What are the best/longest lasting o-rings - silicone, flourine, viton, ptfe etc?
Thanks for the help.

Here is a video BDB Steam Boiler leak (turn up the sound to hear the hissing)

And pictures:

I think the steam valve and/or connection leaks as well.

I had that leak. You need to replace the o ring in there. It is not easy to get to. I found it easier to get to it by disconnecting some other things so they were out of the way.

Thanks for the quick replies. Do I need size 007 for the smaller connectors and 008 for the larger ones?

Would those 2 sizes cover all internal connections?

The only thing I've ever used -008 for is the knob seal on the steam wand valve. I've never used anything but -007 on the boilers.

As far as I know, 007 for the teflon tubes in the water and steam path. I don't know what the rest of them are.

Peter, have you ever sized or replaced the ones on the probes and other electrical connections on the boilers?

Do you know if o-rings indicated by the pink arrows are the same size?

I have not. I have found that other than corrosion from much chloride in the water, or scale fouling, the bigger o-rings in the sensors rarely fail. And if they do fail from chloride corrosion, you have bigger problems than a leaky o-ring.

FWIW, I use distilled water + 100mg/liter of potassium carbonate, per RPavlis, in my BDB. Hopefully this is an acceptable solution - no pun intended.
