I just had the same exact problem, but mine was not as bad as yours. Breville offered to fix it even though they tried to say that it is made with food safe materials and it won't affect anything. Yeah...no thanks. They paid to send it in and they sent the damn machine back without replacing the part and simply did some routine maintenance. Breville ended up sending me a brand new unit which had a hot water dispenser leak. I am now waiting on another brand new unit. If you are under warranty call them and tell them you want it fixed.

Thanks, I need to call them on Monday. I'm actually like one month past my warranty so I'll see if they have any leniency. If not I hope I can at least get the part or see if I can get my credit card to used their extended warranty protection.

Is it possible you simply looked at the wrong part on the diagram? As we speak, they are showing the part in stock, available to add to your basket, for $3.41. Now mind, as with the solenoid, popular service parts go in and out of back order, so it pays to make the effort to keep checking back. A couple of weeks ago it was on back order. Now they have it.

Sorry, now the shower screen the shower heads.

I called Breville today and they opened up a warranty claim right away for me despite being 5 weeks out. I sent them all they needed to review, so now I wait.

The part I was referring to is the thing you showed in your picture, with the surface finish bubbling up. That had some availability last night, but is on backorder again. Still $3.41. You can order it right now, but you'll have to wait till the get more in before they ship it to you. Note that backorder is not the same as discontinued. Ereplacementparts is always going in and out of stock on common service items for the BDB, like solenoids and such.

I believe Breville has the plasticky inner shower screen in stock right now. I should have one, as well as some other parts, on my doorstep right now. The hard part to fine for me right now is the solenoid. I have had one on back order with ereplacementparts for weeks now and it doesn't look promising. My machine is quite noisy and has difficulty reaching and maintaining 9 ish bars. Peter, when you talk about your lifetime supply of o-rings, which ones are you referring to?

Peter, are you sure you aren't looking at the item listed as a shower screen? The piece peeling/bubbling is the actual group head/shower head assembly. The plastic piece that comes off when removing the thin metal shower screen is not the item that is peeling/bubbling.

yeah, that top one is where the issue is. I actually have a backup plastic puck on its way (I needed some new gaskets and it's cheap).

Breville's repairing it for me, just am waiting on my box to send it back in. Hopefully they actually fix it, unlike you're experience Jared.

Any word on your new replacement?

If something fails on an e61 machine I have a dozen shops that are a phone call away with parts on hand. The recent replies on this thread really make me stand by my original comments. I'll take a e61 hx over the bdb any day. The la scala is 8 years old now (bought second hand and still in contact with owner) and all that has been changed is seals. Also my brasilia club was ~20 years old with the apparently original solenoid still working fine.

That's great for you... there's also a lot of benefit of the BDB. You get a lot of features that aren't available on E61 machines unless you spend a lot more money.
