Anyone used Aerogel? I've seen flexible sheets on eBay but never seen it in person

I used this kit, already cut to fit the boiler I was re-wrapping. It works great.

It is just melamine foam with aluminum foil on the outside. No adhesive, just wrap it and use the zip ties to hold it on. I had some metal zip ties on hand, so used those with a strip of flue tape (aluminum foil tape for duct work) to close the ends.
I would think you can find similar from espresso machine parts suppliers in Europe.

I've used it on two machines. It is easier to work with when you laminate Al foil to it. It is a little dusty and is best to use nitrile gloves and face mask. I use stainless steel zip ties to fix it to the boiler. As with any insulation, make a paper template that fits the boiler well and then cut the insulation material using the template. Here is a photo of Pyrogel used on a Salvatore Compact lever:Headala wrote:Anyone used Aerogel? I've seen flexible sheets on eBay but never seen it in person
I used Al laminated Pyrogen in my Elektra A3.

Good ideas!
I like to insulate my boiler, but prefer to keep it cheap
Thanks to all the input I've come to these materials:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/24-x12- ... 8a22b8c357
An aluminium silicate blanket from aliexpress.
and:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ceramic-Fibre- ... AJXM5QZYAT
A ceramic fiber blanket from amazon. A bit more expensive, but it also offers more material...
Any thoughts?

Is felt type pond liner just too cheap, too accessible, or just too simple?

This is very cost effective and has superior insulation value: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aspen-Aerogels- ... 4b076b6add I'd suggest laminating Al foil to the outside to improve dusting. Thicker materials are harder to work with in tight spaces.BartG wrote:Any thoughts?

What do you recommend to laminate the aluminum foil to the insulation?

This is what I used: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Super-Multi-P ... y+adhesive
I applied the adhesive to the insulation and then layed the Al foil on top, brushed is lightly to get full contact, and trimmed it to the size of the insulation sheet. Heavy duty Al foil is better - resists tears.
