Several years back I had similar particles from the hot water wand.
The machine then was a NS Musica.It was scale from the boiler.

I still haven't figured out exactly what the particles are, but since they only show up when I purge after steaming I've just learned to live with it. It's probably scale and one of these days I'll get around to taking the boiler apart for a deep clean.
