Has anybody tried anything from Kimbo other than the more popular Superior Blend? My sister was in Italy and she picked up a bag of Kimbo Napoletano for me. I can't wait to try it out.

i wouldnt recommend it anymore unless your on serious budget
Which version of Motta were you drinking? I have only tried "Gusto Classico Espresso Lounge", I found it tasted pretty good, but I had to pull it at a very low temp.

$15 CAD for 5 lb bags is ridiculously cheap, even in Italy Motta was lik 11 euro for a 1 kilo bag.

I have tried a few of them, Superior and Top Flavour being the only two liked. I have not tried Napoletano, but it has not had such good reviews in this thread. Your mileage may vary.

Have you come across in Hausbrandt from Trieste while in Italy? That is a northern style espresso I really like.

This is by far the best value for money in italian coffee. could honestly sell for 25$ to 30$ but they are 15$ cad for 5lbs bags.
Where are you buying these 5 lb bags for 15$???

Im currently using lavaza crema e aroma from costco (13CAD$ ish for 1kg) to break in my k10 burrs.

Makes a very respectable capa/latte, but looking for other low clost options to further break in the grinder and do more tests to better understand how dose grind temperatue and presure affects taste...

Berchicci in Anjou is a specialized italian grocery. they have lots of 5lbs bags such as most Kimbo, Danessi, Motta, Lavazza, ect

they even had Segafredo 5lbs for 13$ CAD!!! amazing value.

For a change, we ordered Bows & Arrows the hataway blend and FUNCRUSHER PLUS. The hataway is delicious but not at danessi gold level. the funcrusher is very chocolatey and quite delicious and would be at the same level of danessi gold I think. but that was to be expected as im a sucker for chocolatey flavours. the hataway I prefer cold, where the caramel flavours seem accentuated.

I have enjoyed Miscela d'Oro - Natura - and Intenso - Purissimo. The former is Sicilian and both organic and fair trade. ( 50% Arabica / 50% Robusta blend). Both were pulled mostly as a cortado and sometimes as a straight espresso. An Italian colleague really thought the Miscela d'oro was very authentic.

I just finished a 1 lb. bag of Kimbo Napoletano and it was terrible for espresso but very respectable for drip! The espresso, no matter what I did, was a little bitter and left an undesirable aftertaste that I did not appreciate. The Kimbo Gold on the other hand, which I have also tried, makes an excellent base for milk-based drinks and has a very balanced flavor and a mild aftertaste.

I got the famous Illy beans. well, its decent honestly, little sour though but a decent classic italian coffee taste.. id have to retry the Segafredo for being sure but I would placed the Illy over the Motta and possibly over Segrafredo.
but really, its way overpriced

Another update here. Currently I'm going through a Lavazza Tierra and definitely not a big fan. The flavor is more on the fruity/floral side than with traditional Italian coffees. I personally prefer chocolaty and caramel and sweet notes in general. I just ordered my favorite Kimbo (Superior) and a Maromas Orphea. I will start with the Maromas and report back here.

you sure it was 5lb and not 2.2 lb? i stopped by berchicci back in september (im only a few blocks away but it was my first time going) to try some kimbo superior and i jotted down a bunch of prices, and unless it was on sale the cheapest i had seen was segafredo zanetti 1kg for 15$. I find inter marcher has the best prices but mediocre selection (lavazza top class, lavazza grand espresso, kimbo extra cream, and caffe motta are always easy to find at the one i go to..occasionally they have super crema). Prima gocccia has great prices for pretty good beans (7.50-8.50/lb is hard to beat). I plan on trying cafeplantation at les halles danjou next. Lots of selection at fair prices.
