noooooo!!!PIXIllate wrote:Second coffee from Seth Taylor was a Kenyan. Came up lighter at 30-31 on the Roast Vision. Same issue with the visual inspection of the beans. Same papery overriding muted/musty flavour profile. On this one I did get some of the brown sugar that was promised but it was not a great experience. Based on this I doubt I'll be coming back to Seth Taylor any time soon.

This stuff was fantastic! I received a bunch of packs of his coffee as a gift at Christmas and started with that Kenyan first.. The other ones I've opened since then, I keep saying I just wish it was more of that Kerugoya AB Kenya instead.. Crazy how that goes
I thought it was super nice.. Fragrant and sweet, that's the one out of all of them that's a re-buy for me so far. Several more to go. Finishing the Finca la Esquinada, Honduras, Honey process, it's nice but I preferred the Kenya easily. This one has some spicy notes going on for my tastebuds which doesn't agree with "loads of sweetness" in the cup as the label boasts, but who knows
I really must try these other coffees then if that one didn't get a passing grade!
Edit - hey cool, after I posted this, a random person on local Facebook group replied to a question I asked about Oat milk availability, and turns out they're the regional wholesale person for Eight Ounce in Ontario . Asked if she can get me those Dak Milky Cake beans

Why don't you just order them yourself? DHL managed to find my house in Tottenham, I'm sure they'd be able to find yours in Elmira!rolex wrote: Edit - hey cool, after I posted this, a random person on local Facebook group replied to a question I asked about Oat milk availability, and turns out they're the regional wholesale person for Eight Ounce in Ontario . Oh, ok ! I wasn't sure if it was a wholesale thing, when I googled it , it took me to their wholesale site.. I think I looked on their regular site recently and it was no longer listed, maybe it was sold out.. is it readily available?
I almost bought in Tottenham instead of Elmira! Nice place!!
Edit - wait, order from Dak you mean? Directly? I didn't think to try, figured shipping would be deadly
Edit 2 - looks like it comes to ~$135 for 1kg shipped.. asking in my little Discord coffee channel if anyone local wants to go in on it.. free shipping at $150 I wonder if I should grab more and freeze them? I've never frozen my coffee before but also never paid so much for a bean before

Sheka from Stereo. Does what it sets out to. 28/29 - Light on the Roast Vision. Black Tea and citrus. If you like Ethiopian coffees you'll like this. Not as clean as some of the Wendelboe offerings but also has a bit of richness his sometimes miss.
Personally not a profile I seek out but this is good coffee, well roasted.

I have no issue paying the prices that are being charged. What I have an issue with is how few roasters justify those prices in my cup. It's kind of like choosing Burgundy wines. Producer first, then place, then vintage.Spitz.me wrote:I've never bought Seth stuff because when I saw it it was for 250g and the price was dumb. I also don't care for Uber light coffee. For all the positive feedback this toaster has gotten, your experience sounds depressing. Are people just enjoying it because they spent a lot?

Rugali from Rosso. Rwandan. 25/26 - Light/Medium Light on the Roast Vision. This one was a pleasant surprise. Had never really heard of this roaster but this was a very nice coffee. Pulled it both slow with a full soak and fast with just a controlled ramp up and decline. Better faster. Silky and syrupy (17.5/34g) with a rich overall mouthfeel. Hints of cranberry but the kind with sugar added.
EDIT: I just had another shot of this because my impression this morning was so positive. Confirmed. This was a really wonderful sweet, syrupy coffee. I'm now much more interested in the second offering I have from this roaster that I'll try tomorrow.

Yes, order direct. I vacuum seal and have a dedicated mini freezer. I've gotten a little out of control lately and my stock is overflowing back into the family freezers I was recently ordered to vacate.
As far as the milky cake goes, I've had more luck with the espresso roast than the filter (so far), but that's largely due to my stubborn refusal to pull ratios longer than 1:1+. Have let a couple run to 1:2 and they've been very good, just not in the concentrated style I'm preferring these days.
Am trying the filter daily - it's now 13 dpr. Other's mileage will certainly vary!

Rosso - Hunapu - Guatemala. 22/23 - Medium Light on the Roast Vision.
Well, this was the last of the 100g bags from 3rd wave. No question that the two coffees from Rosso were the best of the batch.
This was quite sweet and had a rich presentation when pulled slower with a soak and then added more of the apple/brightness when pulled faster. Good coffee.
The Rwandan from yesterday was truly spectacular so this wasn't quite up to that level but very enjoyable shots none the less. I'll be ordering direct from Rosso at some point soon.

I live within Hatch's region here in the GTA so they courier the coffee and you get it within 3 hours of them sending it out. Pretty awesome! I got 5lbs of the Supernova and it's about 4 days post roast which is fine. I imagine it'll get better with age, but the second shot I pulled hit all the marks for me today. My favourite taste combination is the chocolate, nut and berry combo. The praline/nut was crazy accentuated in my shot today. Very tasty coffee. The berry still feels a bit buried, but I imagine it'll get better at this point.PIXIllate wrote:I like someone who isn't afraid to over commit!![]()
The Gamma in particular is very flexible. You get a good range of "classic" profiles depending on your ratio and temperature. I usually end up somewhere in the 197-200F range at about a 1.7-1.9:1 ratio. I pretty much always use a lever style flow profile as described here:

Thank you!

I'm really glad you like it Tony. The Supernova is great and I usually alternate that with Gamma and then the odd Blackout as my standard coffees. The Gamma in particular can be pulled a few different ways with good results. I'd suggest 199 for Gamma 202 for Supernova and 192 for Blackout. My shouts are usually short of 2:1.
