Same here. I pre-heat my cup with 140 degree water. Then use the cup and some more water at 140 to make the americano.

I usually fill the cup from my wife's hot water pot which is set to 175*F. I then set the cup aside, get my breakfast together & feed the dogs. By the time I'm ready to drink it the coffee is warm, not hot.

I've only been doing traditional style americanos. I need to try the short style. I too prefer the coffee on the cooler side as I taste more of the flavors when it's cooler.
