Every coffee I've had at the kiosk at the transportation center over the past 2-3 years has been decent to good. At Epcot, BEFORE you go inside the park, the kiosk is pretty good. Magic Kingdom is more difficult (I.e. make your own - but I can update this next week  ), and last time we were at Animal Kingdom the coffee was atrocious (not going there this trip)!
Thanks for the heads-up, Ron. Looks like we'll make it to Disney for 2 days max (1 day to Magic Kingdom for my young daughter and 1 day to Hollywood Studios for my young son's Star Wars fix). I just want to chill by the pool and get some R&R, but this trip is going to be one for the kids. So I'm going to need that coffee for sure!
fishll wrote:As an Orlando Native, I can sadly say the coffee scene isn't what I wished for. Though I can honestly say Lineage is roasting and brewing some of the best coffee I have had, ever. If your in the area, its totally worth a stop. Their coffee bar is positioned in a sort of mix use market called the East End Market. Theres a local bakery, produce stand, multiple deli/sandwich counters, a juice bar, cheese shop and even a plant stall, with Lineage sort of the crowning jewel. Though I live in Atlanta now, Im always at Lineage when I return home. Make a stop or even order a bag, I'm sure you'll be impressed.
Thanks Jon, Lineage does look like a bright spot there. If we make it to the downtown area, I'll head there for sure. And the market sounds like a nice spot to see. But it's about 50 minutes from where we're staying and I'll be driving 7 of us around, just in our vehicle. There will be one or two other cars of family members, too! And I'm the only one of us who's a coffee nut. So if we happen to get to that area, I'll head to Lineage for sure. Otherwise I don't think I can convince everyone to tag along for my coffee odyssey!
Headala wrote:That's spot on. I'm also a bit disappointed by the Orlando coffee scene, but Lineage (and Vespr) are bright shining stars in the dreary landscape. If anyone does go to East End Market, try the meatball sandwich at the cheese shop. It should come with a warning label...if you get any on your face, your tongue will beat you slap dab to death trying to lick it off!
Meatball sandwich sounds good to me!

Have a good trip! If all else fails, consider checking out Chik-fil-A; their coffee is by Thrive, and it's surprisingly passable. Or come down south and see me. ;)

1. All Day MIA in Wynwood [Dade] is now open. See Instagram for updates. Looks killer.
2. Threefold now has a second location in S. Miami.
3. Switchbox opened today in Oakland Park [Broward]. Promising! I went by.
Found this place in Ft Lauderdale http://www.calusacoffeeroasters.com . Just tried out 5lbs of the Old Florida blend, actually I asked for the Everglades blend which looked nice, but the bag said Old Florida. Either way its damn good. Pulling awesome shots and drinks. And it was great being able to just walk in, order, and he literally fresh roasted me a batch and to come back an hour later to pick up, even asked how I wanted it roasted and I said medium.

Stopped by All day and Panther today in Miami...

All day had a nice blend that showed some origin character and was a great 'rich' drink... nice bottled sparkling water and a lemon filled puff pastry definitely a go back...

Panther not so much had their 'east coast' blend... service was harried so there wasn't much time for conversation about the 'east coast' versus 'west coast' blends. East coast blend roasted all the origin out of the source beans tasted very starbuksy... next time in town i may try the 'west coast' blend but i'm inclined to just head over to All Day and have 2.

:D

Thanks for posting, Rich! I'm assuming you went to Panther's Wynwood location, right? Next time maybe hit Vice City before or after All Day since they're so close to each other.

I did find a nice little coffee/donut shop in Key West called, "Glazed Donuts" . They use a nice two group Rancilio for their espresso. Donuts are pretty good, too :D .

Two doors down from them is a shop called "Sippin' Coffee" that looks interesting from the outside. Haven't been inside, yet and tried their coffee, but hopefully will later. It says internet cafe on the outside.

^^^ Thanks.

I just made a big update to the main post, adding shops and roasters I've become aware of as well as another Instagram account I'd recommend following for S. FL coffee news. Check it out, and please feel free to suggest changes!

A few random thoughts in no particular order...

1. The other day I made it up to R1 in Boca and enjoyed both an espresso and a cortado made on a Slayer using Verve's Sermon blend. Great addition to the Palm Beach Co. scene! A co-owner there used to work at The Seed.

2. An aspect of shop culture I'm a big fan of lately is specialty chocolate. Many shops now carry bars from all over, and there isn't a ton of overlap. I've started listing which chocolate makers are featured in shops in the main post. Fair warning: chocolate is an expensive habit; at least this way I can save on shipping.

Added a link to Dose, an upcoming digital magazine focusing on "the stories behind coffee and the people who brew it." If you click through, you'll be rewarded with a pic of Michelle Hopper (Switchbox) pouring something tasty.

Hi Florida,
I'm from Munich, Germany but my parents live in the Ocala area. I'll be there in early June - are there any chances to get decent espresso in the Ocala region? Orlando seems quite a drive for a cup...

best regards
