I will definitely be there and will bring pizzelles and sodas if needed. The only thing that would keep me and my husband away would be a major snow storm (knock on wood).

Im still all in on hosting this. Ordered a hottop B to add another variable to my godawful espresso, hopefully will come in time from sweet marias to have a not too fresh roast.

I'll bring my Mazzer Mini with the Super Jolly sized Duranium burrs. Interested in hearing the feedback.

I'll be curious ... those burrs stalled out regular Jollies; I'm surprised they work reliably in a Mini.

Is this Get Together IX closed? And is there room for one more newbie? I would like to join. This is at your place "stinkyonion" right? If so could you PM me your address if the get together still open.

Jim, what type of booze? I ask b.c. my cooking ability is making ramen noodles. I was thinking about bringing some single malt scotches. Nothing too crazy something in range on Auchentoshan Three Wood or Balvenie (will have to see what I can find locally or at Binny's in Downers Grove). Polish Vodka (e.g. Chopin)? Import beers (e.g. Sapporo, Singha)? Or all the above (i.e. can I make up for lack of food with bring more booze?)
another_jim wrote:............. but we discussed doing an espresso 101 get together some time soon. The idea is that people could bring their espresso gear, and participate in a shot pulling clinic. There would be a lecture, some shot pulling on pro gear, and then on people's own gear. We'd like to hear the ideas of anyone interested in participating in something like this.
Is there still a need for non-pro gear? I can contribute my very-NON progear PID Alexia. I see on this thread Mazzer Mini with Duranium burr so probably no need for a Mazzer Super Jolly with regular burrs. Or is the espresso equipment covered?

Surprisingly no stalling issues at all with the burrs. However, I would LOVE to compare it to a Super Jolly back to back.

Anyone who can make it is welcome; we'll sort out directions over this weekend
...
Our booze tastes are slightly biased towards over the top oak and hops, but quite flexible. So bring anything you love yourself and want to pass along
...
Bring the machine. By comparing it to the others using the same coffee and grind setting; it's much easier to figure out how to get the best from it. We do want one Jolly to see how Allen's converted Mini stacks up.

Its still on, 10am to 5pm next Saturday (1/12/13) at my place in Oak Brook near Interstate 294 and Ogden. Will PM everyone the address that is coming this weekend (or whenever they confirm). Now working on topless dancers and dancing bear etc. to entertain for the full time period. Maybe Gallagher is available and Ill get some watermelons.
The hottop I ordered is still in California, but in transit. Dunno if I will figure out how to roast in time, but I did order some Colombian Gesha and Ethiopian SO so no bad bean excuses. They havent arrived yet either.

Wow ?! I'll make sure I don't bring my wife. For much less visually stimulating entertainment, do you have blu ray player? If so I can bring my copy of Led Zeppelin Celebration BD (great sounding classic rock concert filmed in 2007).

Per Jim's message above , I'll bring my non-pro equipment PID Alexia and Mazzer Super Jolly (regular burrs). Also I will bring one # of single origin I just got from Paradise Roasters too.

Just curious what are some of the grinders going to be?
