When I am Manhattan I always get down to grumpy, need to pay 9th street a visit but never seam to make it. Just get yourself a week long metro pass. You can get anywhere in Manhattan relatively quickly. If I remember correctly there is a subway stop just a block or two from Grumpy.

On the Upper east Side, Via Quadronno on 73rd just off the park has excellent espresso.
