I agree with your opinion of HX machines. There is maybe one good reason to consider them, however. If someone really wants a compact e61 machine, an HX e61 is going to be a lot more compact than a dual boiler machine. The Mara X is a great example of one that as you have pointed out has exceptionally good temperature control, but the fact remains that any HX e61 is going to be more compact than dual boiler machines. If one isn't committed to an e61, there are excellent machines like the Decent, which don't use traditional boilers and are quite compact.
