We gave my Vivaldi II to our son when we moved to AZ in 2019 and now it's 17 years old and we think has died a complete death. I don't have all the details other than it didn't pump out water this morning, and the steam boiler had failed a bit ago. Thinking it's time to move on rather than put money in repairs.

Our son loves the Vivaldi and has it dialed in. He doesn't care about 58vs53, especially since he has my Chris King 53mm tamper. We both cycle. BTW paid 1795 for in 2006 and it's 2450 now. The govt inflation calculator says 1795 is 2,687 now so that's interesting. Over the 17 years I think I replaced the triac twice.

Anyway what other machines would you recommend we consider with the same features - plumbed - dual boiler. He doesn't care about fancy electronics so not sure the Dream does much but we will look at it.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Why don't you try to repair it. If he loves it, it's probably worth at least looking at. It's rare that repairs are really expensive. I assume you're handy enough to take a stab at it.

Pretty sure the steam boiler needed replacing; broken off piece if I recall. I think those parts were about $600 and now there's more; and he has little time to do so even though he probably could. I am can replace a known part but re working a whole machine is beyond my current skill level. We will consider that but still interested in other opinions here.

You could also look in buy/sell, something like this might be a perfect machine:

[FS] Profitec Pro 700

Thanks Ira. That machine was on my list. My friend has one and loves it.

That Pro 700 would be nice. But of course, another Vivaldi should also be on the list since he's liked it. Or the Clive Lucca version.
I had my Vivaldi over 10 years, and liked it too. Easy to use, no E61 mechanism to clean/lube. And he probably already has all the 53mm accessories.
