Thank you everyone for your recommendations!

It looks like my friends' dad is going to give me his old (at least 15-20 year old) solis crema. Still glad I have more information now as I can't imagine this machine going for another 20 years or so. If anyone has thoughts on the solis I'd love to hear it, but I'm not about to turn down a free machine so it looks like I'll be holding off on buying for a while.
