This is getting off topic but I wanted to show how a smaller filter (51mm) does not work, at least with the Breville Dual Boiler. The filter was stuck to the screen the two times that I tried it.
The puck however was super dry.

Waiting for temperature and pressure.
For the time being it has to stay here.

Congrats!

Also, I need me some walnut accents :D

Well, I guess that I need me some white oak accents, since that's the direction that my wife wants to go with the lower cabinets, but. ya know. :P

First impressions, very positive. On a scale from 1 to 10. Enjoyment of the new toy: 9. Espresso quality 7-8 (and a few 9's). The machine is very easy to use. After the first couple of shots my son who has to use two hands and one foot to pull the lever is also happy with the change, in spite of the fact that he was not sold on the idea of having to quit the Breville Dual Boiler.
Between yesterday and today we have pulled about twelve or fifteen shots.
Luck of the beginners, the first two yesterday were outstanding. I had read somewhere that these levers require a slightly finer grind, so I had set my Niche two notches down. The two shots came out perfect. Little less mouthfeel, and very smooth. Then of course I began playing with doses and grind size and we had not been able to replicate the same quality of those first two shots, even if overall they were all good espressos. That was until this morning when I pulled the first shot of the day. And then after lunch, a couple of shots. Those were more than excellent. It looks like that the first shots are better then the ones after the machine has been idle for some time. We are using Primavera (with the Niche Zero) and Banco Gotiti (with the Eureka Specialità), from Buongiorno Coffee, and with both the first shots were better than the ones that we pulled later.
Temperature is at 255 and I am not going to play with it until we get consistent with the pull, especially my son, however the impression is that the temperature in the cup gets higher when it stays on for some time. The only thing I did after lunch was to reduce the flow rate. I discovered it could be done in this discussion: Profitec Pro 800 users, what is your water debit / flow rate?
Steaming the milk is a breeze.
One thing that I had not realized until I began pulling shots, is that by using a "service cup" virtually there is no need for emptying the drip tray. Also the amount of water after the shot is completed is not very much, I expected it to be more than what I see now that I am using the machine.
Pucks come out very dry and easy to dump. The basket remains practically completely clean. It reminds me of when in my youth I worked at a bar, between shots we only cleaned the basket with a cloth, no water. With the BDB instead we have to pour a good amount of water from the shower screen, in order to clean it, same with the Gaggia Classic or the Bambino.
The machine seems to be very well built. However there is a problem with the hole of the drip tray that is not in the right position so using the drainage cup would be problematic. I see that other members here had the same problem. I reported it to the seller and I'll see if they can replace the tray.
I have to buy or make a new tamping station. The one I have for the Breville does not work with the new portafilters. I will probably buy the Eureka Mignon Drawer since it works as tamping station as well, and I will put it under the Specialità,

So far so good.

Question:
I am using the internal water tank. If I move the valve that is on the rear of the machine (the one that switches between pump and direct water connection) to a central position, the pump sends the water from the water tank to the supply adapter instead of sending it to the boiler (water come out from the adapter). What is the reason of that. Maybe a way to test if the pump works, without having to fill the boiler? I did not find anything in the manual related to that position. Only to the other two positions.

I noticed a mysterious leak from my 800 and it turned out that the switch was knocked out of the 'tank' position when I was plumbing in the drip tray. I think that the plumb supply line and the pump output join at that switch, prior to the solenoid that opens when the boiler calls for water. I assume that there's no intended third position, but rather an in-between that's partially open to both lines and that, when the vibe pump kicks on, it simply provides an escape path.

Your set up looks good. It is very encouraging to hear how good your espresso is with the Profitec 800. Speaks well of commercial grade lever machines.

I've found the interactive connection with a lever to be very rewarding. After almost a year I still look forward to getting up in the morning and pulling shots. More than I did with my previous machine.
