Found this question asked a few years ago on here. The thread was closed for additional posts.

Times change, machines change. I'm in the market for a new machine.

Speedster or Slayer?

Go!

Neither, heh! A vintage restored-to-new lever seems to be the bomb now. :D Something like either Faema Urania, President, Mercurio, Gaggia etc etc or all of them!

Easy decision for me. I went with looks. I've lusted over a Speedster for a long time - when i could make it happen i did. I do believe there is very little between the top tiers of machines - i plan to keep my Speedster for a long time.

Can't go wrong with either. Slayer gives you a little more preinfusion control. Speedster is gorgeous. At this level, you will be happy with any choice, if your coffee, grinder, and skills are up to it. A large commercial group spring lever, modern or vintage, is a great choice too.

Also, I hope you have a grinder upgrade planned as well, if you are still using the Lux.

I'd be down with a speedster, Slayer is a beast, but Kees has some class

I would choose the Speedster. A masterpiece of modern industrial art and a classic from the moment of its unboxing. Created by Kees, the 'Picasso' of Espresso 'Surrealism'.

The eyes never tire.
