Ok I'm really getting the double boiler upgrade itch. I currently have an Oscar plus Grinta. I'm thinking Brewtus III-V plus Mazzer Mini E B. For the money could you think of anything better?

Cheers,

It may help if you elaborate on your thinking behind choosing the Expobar Brewtus III. Personally I think the Mazzer Mini Electronic is much too expensive for the added value of neatness. The Mazzer Super Jolly and Macap MXKR, to name only two alternatives, cost less and perform a grinder's primary purpose better.

OK, I'll give this a shot. How about the La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi, Alex Duetto, or VBM Double Domo? These are all very nice double boilers in roughly the same price range. Not that there's anything wrong with the Brewtus, but there are some other good machines in the same general class.

Also, for about the same price as the Mazzer Mini E, you could get a Cimbali Max Hybrid or a Super Jolly. Arguably those may be better grinders, though of course this is somewhat subjective.

Upgrade step one has to be the grinder. I would look for something a step up over the Mini E. Super Jolly, one of the hybrid grinders now available, or even a Kony... Get the last grinder you will ever need and don't look back.

After the grinder, then you can shop for a machine.. The doubles that Beezer listed are all good places to look.

Thanks guys. The Jolly is American name for the Luigi correct? I may have a line on a used one.

It seems many models of Mazzer have the Luigi name, not just SJs. You will need to check the stats, burr size, etc.

Just my opinion (everybody loves the machine they just bought) but I do feel the LaSpaziale Vivaldi is far superior to any of the other machines you mentioned. The engineering innovation and general quality is higher than any machine I've seen in that price range.

What are your goals?
Why do you feel the need to upgrade (ie what is wrong with your current set up)?
How do you use your equipment (frequency, duration, number of drinks, types of drinks)?
What kind(s) of coffee do you like best?
What's in the cup is what matters.

Definitely emphasis on the roughly for the Duetto ($2395) vs Brewtus III V ($1849), which IMHO, is a big difference in relation to $s.

Prices have changed already, I would just recommend calling for the latest pricing anyhow.
