Just a final update for those who may be interested.
After getting into the new house and assessing the space we were constrained to find something quite narrow so the machine did not have to go underneath shelving or a counter. So, today I picked up my brand spanking new ECM Casa V single boiler machine. At 8.3" wide it fits perfectly into our space. Compared to the Silvia (which ultimately was the other major competitor) it:
- has a bigger water tank
- more powerful heating element
- bigger boiler (by just a snick)
- nicer fit and finish
- easily accessible opv
- external pressure gauge.
Anyway, I am sure it will be perfectly fine. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

I've got to think this was a good choice. Enjoy! the Silvia was fine for us but if I started over now I think I'd follow your lead.

Hey Mike, I posted in the repair forum, I scored a $19 Ascaso Dream at goodwill but I need a portafilter and thermometer. Are you interested in selling parts from your Dream? Given the cost of new parts, I'd likely be willing to pay to ship the old one since I'd be using those two parts.
