La Marzocco Linea Mini upgrades - read before you buy - Page 2
Yeah, I guess in the end is down to persoanl preference and different level of OCD (mine is very severe, lol).
Anyone did any kind of pre-infusion mods?

Because they told me so and replaced the battery for that reason. Have you taken the top off yours; you will see that it is not sealed.
The reason why they don't claim it to be certified as waterproof is that it can't be operated underwater (as described here). The water resistance it has is plenty for the intended use.
Could you please specify what's in the manual that I should read? I couldn't find anything about appropriate exposure there. Just please note that I'm not trying to argue your point, but Acaia themselves video. I trust they know what they're claiming with the confidence inspiring water damage warranty coverage.
Ok I thought it was in the manual but its on their website. True it doesn't say it can bloat the battery on that page, but it does indicate steam from a drip tray can get inside. Here is my Home Barista thread where that was discussed
I've used a Felicita Arc for three years and leaving in on the tray, hot water pouring all over, steam did absolutely nothing to it. I've bought the Lunar only about two months ago, been leaving it in the tray 24/7 (only taking it out for weekly cleaning) and I guess only time will tell if it lasts. I'll make sure to report back if it doesn't, but I'm quite confident it will.

Okay, that's not exactly true. They never told you it's because of steam (so you still don't know for certain it was because of steam), they told you it's one of the possibilities. My bet would be on the other possibilities they mentioned (charging block, frequent charging). They seemed to be heavily focused on your battery charging habits of your Lunar in their reply.CarefreeBuzzBuzz wrote:Because they told me so and replaced the battery for that reason.
As I said, I've used the Arc this way for three years without issues, I'll make sure to let you know should something happen with my Lunar in the future.

Well you did point out something that other people have missed with the original Lunar which is they really do want you to use a 5W power block which I did 90% of the time and I didn't frequently charge it so if you want to be on the others, we can agree to disagree like @doraymon says.Jaroslav wrote:Okay, that's not exactly true. So of course after I got the new battery this has never happened again and it's now 5 years old; only change - don't leave it on the drip tray. Nothing more to say here.

I'm sorry, I was just really curious what you've based it on. I used to work for a company that makes everyday electronics, most of them 100% waterproof (and some not waterproof at all), that were being servised due to bloated batteries, but those bloated batteries were never bloated due to moisture (which I'm sure you know can be confirmed by moisture indicators inside of the device as well as corrosion). Just assessing my own risk based on what you said, of course I'd want to prevent having to replace the battery. That's all

Fair enough and I appreciate you got me to think about this - and now I look back at the date of the thread and its nearly 4 years later and like I said biggest change was keeping the steam away - let's be clear - its mostly steam coming from up the bottom, not coffee dripping on the top. That's why I believe it's the steam. BTW I have the a 2021 also now and it seems to be the same design with the top plate over the bottom plate. They do have a Lunar Base for use in Drip Trays which I would get for sure if I got that mod. They stateJaroslav wrote:I'm sorry, I was just really curious what you've based it on. The enlarged profile of the Lunar Base shields the scale from heat and moisture in shallow drip trays, and prevents drip tray lips and backsplashes from interfering with the movement of the scale's weighing surface.
Except the warranty is only one year, which isn't very long considering the price of it.Jaroslav wrote:But what sort of a wear are we talking? The Lunar is protected against water and steam. It's built to withstand commercial environment, steam and water will not harm the scale. If you happen to get water damage, Acaia will send you a new one within warranty.
Mine lasted three years before it started throwing tantrums, falsely detecting water and disabling buttons - wouldn't have been an issue if I could still see the weight/time. The H2O warning would take over the whole screen.
I replaced mine and would still buy another one if needed as they're simply the least infuriating to use! However, I would also be happy to pay more for a different brand scales that would last longer (backed with warranty) and have better customer support.
