I'm a happy new owner of an old Olympia Cremina and a 10+ year owner of a Vario grinder. I would love to improve my workflow by getting a dosing funnel/ring that allows:
  • Grinding directly from the Vario
  • Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT)
  • Tamp-through
I've never owned a dosing funnel or ring, but am assuming it's a bad idea to buy a random one.

Here are three non-random options:

I have the original, from Tidaka in Germany. This is the current version that they sell: https://www.tidaka.net/Trichter/Boardtr ... --242.html (Use Google translate)

There are many copies available now, e.g., https://coffee-sensor.com/product/la-pa ... nnel-49mm/ Unfortunately, their Canadian distributor coffeeaddicts.ca is out of stock, so you'll have to pay shipping from Romania. If you're not in a rush, then you might want to e-mail coffeeaddicts.ca to see if/when they plan on restocking the funnel.

If I was buying today, then I'd probably get a funnel with magnets like this one: https://sworksdesign.com/Magnetic-Funnel-p455250493

Note that I can't confirm height clearance in the Vario for the latter two - I only have the old version of the Tidaka, and the Tidaka is shorter. There are also a few(?) different Cremina portafilters of various heights and spouts so clearance to the Vario's arms may also be an issue.

Note with tamp-through, you should check on your tamper diameter. For example, if your tamper has a 49.6mm diameter, then a funnel with an inner diameter of 49.1mm won't work. If you want to use the funnel to help level the tamper, then ideally you would want a funnel with an inner diameter that is just slightly larger than your tamper, like 0.15mm. (You need some clearance to avoid binding.)

I went for this one! Waiting for it to arrive. Fingers crossed it fits in the grinder, in the basket, and with the tamper!

One option is a 49mm lens hood. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QVPRDZT/

it does have its cons - grinds somewhat stick and the threaded part of it extends into the basket so you'll have a small ridge which may not matter if you tamp through. But can't beat the price and you can tamp through and WDT with it. edit: you CAN NOT tamp through it, only WDT. I must have mixed it up with using the 58mm funnel I have.

The sworks one looks pretty good - I'm also looking for another one that's similar to the Weber or Decent 58mm funnel that will work with 49mm baskets. I have a copycat version for my 58mm baskets
