Thank you guys for all the suggestions. It looks like an AWS or Smart Weigh scale is the way to go. The Acaia doesn't seem to be a good value for what it offers.

I don't use all the modes on the Brewista, just auto 4 most of the time. This one looks perilously close in size and construction (you want a think scale so there is room for the cup). Plus, if I understand it correctly, this scale has a 'counting mode', which might be handy. Finally, it is accurate to .01g and is half the price of the Brewista. If you need more than a 1 pound capacity, they make two more models that will do 2 and 3 kilos, but they are only accurate to 0.1g
It is important to distinguish between precision and accuracy. The resolution numbers do not establish that the scale is accurate to any particular level.

I've used one of these for years. Does everything advertised.

I'm also looking for a new drip tray scale. I've got a simple cheap one I use for weighing my beans, but would like something waterproof for on the drip tray. What the Acaia and Brewista scales add in terms of functionality is mainly the shot timer, right? That seems useful, although I'm not sure how much money it's really worth. Does anyone know of other precision scales that include a stopwatch or shot timer functionality (I clicked on the links in the other posts but don't think any of those scales offer that functionality).

O, by the way, I think I read something about Brewista coming out with a new model later this year or early 2017. Like the Acaia it's pretty much out of stock everywhere at the moment.

Just for the shot timer, fast response time, and waterproofing, the Brewista is a deal in my book. I don't use any of the funtions though as I find just pressing the time button easy enough.

I've had my acaia for a year now and it's definitely not the cheapest option but it's worked perfectly since day one. I use it to weigh my doses and my shots, 3-4 a day 7 days a week and never an issue

These are my drip tray scales as well. They function very well for their price range.

That said, come January I am probably going to give Decent Espresso's smart scale a try. I'd like to try out the smarter features without the Lunar price tag.

Everything else is kinda a pain to fit on the tray for a regular sized machine.

This is how I feel about my Pearl. It's great, consistent, nice to look at (even tho less so with the rubber mat), it's just so large. Arguably it's not for espresso. Thinking about selling it for this reason.
