While working on getting the Export up and running I thought I'd start looking for a tamper. Not much out there in the 45mm range, tho OE has two to choose from.

One is their HLE 45mm style with plastic(?) handle, and the other is all SS and 45.1mm and indicated as being specific to the Export.

Any thoughts on one over the other are appreciated, as well as other options.

Check this guy out.

I've gotten bases from him for two LaForza tamper handles, but obviously he sells handles as well as bases and he has all of the necessary sizes available, plus he offers to make custom sizes:

Ive been using the OE stubby tamper for years. It works well with the light tamp spring levers love.

I went search for tampers recently and I came across one that I am quite happy with:

I got a nice beech tamper from Peter at made by knock. I also have a nice one from Vanellis, and one from OE. All work well, but I like the beech by knock best.

Thanks for the tips. Anyone have experience with that all SS one from OE? Wondering if the .1mm makes a difference. Lots of good choices out there and I'm trying to keep the cost down.

With the Faemina I just use my thumbs to level and tamp using the feel of the edge of the basket and tamper, and the shape at the base of the OE SS one looks like it would facilitate that.

I got a ss tamper with one of my Samas that was purported to have come from OE. It works great. I could measure it - it's at the office, so let me know.

Thanks Jack -

Here's what the OE tamper looks like. - http://www.orphanespresso.com/OE45-HLE- ... _1825.html. I also like the ball knob tamper and it's $10 less and if the .1mm is of no great difference, may go with it.

Then again, I've got Mr. Pratt's Faemina tamper, so the OE custom for the Export would make a good companion.

Yes, that's the one. The one I have fits well and gives good results. I prefer wood but I'm not too fussy about it.

On the other hand, Vanelis has one for half the price:

That is the one I got with my first Export, but it's worth emailing them just to be sure it still fits the PV basket.

As far as I can tell all of my Sama and Export baskets are interchangeable including some older and some new.
