Typically my kettle is no more than a third full, so without actively holding the thermometer upright, the tip won't submerge enough to get an accurate reading.
I think it would be easy enough to find some thin stainless steel and fashion it thusly:
The top to the lid screws into place, so you'd just attach it there.
I'll try this in the next couple of days and report back in case anyone's interested.

Mine is long enough to reach the bottom and the stem is heavier than the top so it just works. Not digital though, just an old dial.
