Im glad to finally hear others chiming in with similar results. I was finding it hard to believe that i was the only one experiencing this. Also I totally get the shorter the roast, the more everything needs to be on point. But thats just want this coffee likes.
These two roasts ended with the same drop temp and same moisture loss. So on paper the same roast, but in actuality very different cups. One roast is probably the best coffee Ive ever experienced(94pts), the second roast is something thats nice but not something I would ever pay tons of money for(90pts).
Am i the only one who thinks there are god roasts just like god shots? This sort of thing has happened to me on a couple other coffees as well. Every time it happens its on one of the best coffees that year(guat Gesha/Ethiopian ECX Yirg/Ethiopian Kochere/Ethiopian Semoen Abay. Those four coffees are some of the best coffees ive ever roasted, but they wernt consistent at all. I would have a god roast, followed by an ok roast(with the same profile). Only thing different would be environmental conditions(humidity and room temp).
Then there are other super coffees Ive roasted that are like laser beams of consistency. Anything ive ever had from Esmeralda has roasted exactly the same, and exactly as delicious every time i put it in the roaster(assuming i repeat the profile im aiming for).
Ive learned to no longer chase those coffees that i cant easily repeat. But I wish I could at least wrap my head around why i cant repeat them.

No you are not alone. I had roasts of same coffee where I kept everything exactly the same and only once I got perfect roast that was just amazing... Could not repeat it ever again.dustin360 wrote:Am i the only one who thinks there are god roasts just like god shots?
