After several occurrences of the "quiet Ulka pump" syndrome and subsequent replacement, I'm considering switching to a Fluid-o-Tech 1106 vibe pump in my Andreja Premium. The flow rate diagrams on this site appear to show a nearly ideal flow rate at 9 bar and the pump just seems to be of higher quality (more solid construction, longer duty cycle). Other than adding a diode on the power connector and adjusting the OPV, are there any other concerns about using this pump in my machine?

Thanks!
Rob

I am of no use to you (sorry) but I do want to say that if you go through with this, please fill us in on the results and any extra materials used to make the install happen. I have burnt out more than a few Ulka pumps on my Anita, and may well choose to follow in your footsteps.

Get the FOT pump without the attached OPV valve. Buy the connector w/ diode from FOT themselves because few retailers carry this part. The rationale being that most purchasers are simply replacing an existing installation which already includes the connector you need.

With a grain o' salt, the FOT pumps are solid performers but they tend to be less self-priming than the Ulka's.

When you buy the connector w/ diode from FOT, you will need to attach some male spade connectors to the wires to mate with the female connectors going to the Ulka.

Thanks, Eric. I figured that I could just get a cheap 120V diode at Radio Shack and solder it to a male/female pair of spade connectors. Is there more to the connector from FoT?

So no concerns about the flow rate or gicleur size? The flow rate at 9 bar is a bit less than the stock Ulka and I wondered if I would get the right flow rate at the GH.

Well, it is the correct connector for the pump/motor and obviously(?) has the correct diode. That's a plus in my book. In former years, I would likely go the Radio Shack route also.

You will also need a 1/8" BSPP/barb fitting for the pump suction and a flexible nylon 90 ell for the suction hose . . . maybe the Ulka pump already has this 90 ell. Stefano at http://www.espressocare.com/ has these fittings and likely the pump also.
