Does anyone know how and where the professional micro-roasters get their coffee beans? It's pretty easy for the common-Joe to get green coffee beans in the $5 to $6 per pound range. Just wondering if there is a cheaper alternative if one was to purchase several hundred pounds of beans and who they would get it from.

Many use these brokers:

Royal Coffee New York
Royal West Coffee Oakland
Zephyr Coffee Kansas
Atlas Coffee Seattle
Cafe Imports Minnesota
IAC Houston
Coffee Shrub, Oakland
Bodhi Leaf, Placentia, CA
Volcafe, CA
Mercanta, Seattle
Atlantic Specialty, Oakland
and a few others

Others contract with larger roasters to piggy back on direct trade contracts or form their own relationships with growers for direct contract. A rare few do trips to origins (costly).

Javabeansplus in NY has greens on sale for as little as $2.99/lb with free shipping.
