Trouble with shorting heating element wires

Replaced heating element gasket on pasquini lievetta/80 due to leaking. About a week later the element wires... where the green wire meets the white wire started to smoke and now need to replace. has anyone had experience like this...please advise

Per US electrical supply standards, green wire should only be used for ground and should never be connected to any current carrying wire except at the service entrance (near your incoming electrical panel). If the green wire carries any current, something is seriously, perhaps dangerously, wrong. Your word "meet" is ambiguous, but if you meant that the green wire is electrically connected to (as opposed to merely close to) the current carrying white wire, you should immediately unplug the unit and make sure no other serious wiring mistakes have been made.

As to replacing wires, use a high temperature wire like something with a silicone shield. Also use spade connectors that are the correct size. A little over sized and you will get arching in the connection which will generate heat and melt things.
