From the look of it, and if it uses the same mesh size as a french press, I don't see what difference it would make. The Clever was meant to combine the steeping of a french press and the "clean cup" aspect of paper filter pourover. With the Handy Brew, if I understand correctly, you steep the coffee as you would in a french press and then filter it through metal... as you would in a french press. :?

Well, to be fair, the handy brew seems like it would result in slightly cleaner cup, if for no other reason than you have eliminated the hand-powered "press" step, which will tend to push some solids into the pot. With a gravity-powered drawdown, fines should tend to be caught up in the bed of grounds that forms over the filer. (with a press pot, you're always disturbing that bed of grounds during the plunge.) The handy brew also uses two metal filters in series with a gap in between them, I bet a lot of solids that pass through the first filter stall out on top of the second filter.
