Cheers for the detailed (as always) advice Doug!

I fear though that it might be too late for my ol' lady as she is prone to gas-incontinence when the steam faucet is not overtightened. If the brass top rack is already damaged, do you think it would still be possible to get the front side tight (thats where the leak is) with this method?

If you still have a leak at the front plate O ring after following Doug's instructions then perhaps you could order a top rail kit from OE and then in the meantime pull off the front plate and take a closeup pic of the area where the O ring lays on the steam log. Unfortunately I didn't take a pic of the damage on mine to show you. I will know next week if my fix to the damage works.

just wanted to post a pic of the ready (save the positioning of the steam wand) machine;



Regarding the electrical issue in the beginning, ive narrowed it down to a faulty extension chord.
