Why no crema?

My espresso maker doesn't really make any crema. Does anyone know what may be the problem?

We'll need more detail. The short answer: Fresh coffee + good grinder and espresso machine + some barista skill = lots of crema.

I think it might be my grinder. It's an oval shaped one so the grind isn't very consistent. My beans are fresh though.

Based on your equipment description, it sounds like a blade grinder and possibly a steam-driven espresso machine (?). If so, that combo cannot produce espresso, though Chris (Psyd) offered some suggestions on how to produce a tasty drink here. You also should check out the site's recommended reading for terms and the basic to intermediate principles / techniques of making espresso at home.

Do you roast your own beans? How old are the beans?
