Why is the single-spout portafilter offset? - Page 2

These La Marzocco double spouts are closer together than most, making it easier to pour into one cup if you prefer. Or you can get a single pour spout, either curved or straight. Another option is removing the spout for a no-cost single pour opening.

But my explanation is MUCH simpler than yours! Judging the quality of the pour is essential. There are a million ways to support the PF for tamping, most are easier with a symmetrical spout. You must be a bottomless PF user, and not tuned into the beauty of the "tail of the mouse"! :D

This kind of defies Occam's Razor, and begs the question, "Why are some of the double spots offset, then?"

Since you had to go and pull Occam's Razor on me...I think you're misunderstanding Occam's Razor! The universe does not always have the same ideas about simplicity as we do. When one idea explains everything you're seeing, that's simplicity.

If done right the bottomless extraction has said tail also. :P

In all seriousness though Dan's suggestion of the LM double spout is spot on. I'd think the single spout is offset so that the flow can be observed when standing directly behind the handle. Then again who knows...

Uh, Tim? I agree with Dan's suggestion, too. After all, I made it before he did!

Ehm, 'kay...

See, I do understand Occam's Razor, and my point was that the offset would be to rest it on something and have a large base to tamp into, and that explanation also explains why they might do the same thing on double spout PF's, like I suggested in my post.
OTOH, I'm not sure you understand an argumentative counter statement. Your supposed to argue something different than what I presented if you want to present an opposing viewpoint.

That straight single spout has got to be a joke...

I've often wondered why single spouts weren't made with a second "dummy" spout for stability.
