Why are my milk drinks made with a ristretto so much better?

my 16g 1.2oz ristrettos in milk drinks are super nice. If I loosen things up for a 25-30 second 2oz standard shot, not so nice. The standard shot lacks the full flavour of the ristretto. I'm happy to keep doing what works for me, these ristretto based milk drinks are super, but am I missing something here?

I have definitely experienced the same thing, but it has depended on the blend or SO I am using.

I think that's because ristretto shots are richer and have more intense flavor than normale shots, so the flavor cuts through the milk better. That's my story anyway, and I'm stickin' to it.

Do you prefer the normale to the ristretto for a doppio? It could be that you are just a fan of risretti, like I am, and prefer them straight or in milk.

I was going to post this in the 'Better Americano' topic, but hold back to gather experience with more beans...
I definitely prefer a ristretto for my Americano then a normale - it makes a deep, intriguing taste.

Sounds right. I haven't tried a ristretto in a latte but I bet it would be better. Despite what the straight espresso drinkers like to claim you can totally tell a latte made with mediocre or poor espresso from one made with very good espresso.
