I am looking for a method to add a temperature probe readout to my Isomac Mondiale with E61 brewhead. I've seen methods that utilize the screw replacement? I think I've seen some home-made versions but would like to know which is "best" and want it as inconspicuous as possible.
thanks!

Thanks Dan. I seem to remember someone else posting a method where they bored out the screw. Modified a digital thermometer from Whole Latte Love to be shorter. Then he brazed them together. In the end he had a smallish digital temp readout right at the brewhead. Do you recall where I could find that write-up and pics?

I was attracted to that small readout right at the brewhead. I wonder if anyone has had any experience with the specialty swagelock fitting thermocouple adapter and a temperature display right at the brewhead? I don't want to run wires from brew head over to the top or side of the machine to mount the display? Any tips??

Thank you,
Paul

See No More Guesswork! Naked Truth of E61 Temperature Revealed and the related discussion. The main difference, other than cost and looks, is that Dave's thermometer rig doesn't have the fast responsiveness of the thermocouple.

Whew, thank you. That the the one I was looking for. Now that I see how slick and easy the swagelock fitting is by comparison, I'd like to use that with the modification of the readout right at the brew head. Do you know of any readout from Omega or other that could be mounted right there at the brewhead using the specialty swagelock fitting?
Thank you.

Sorry, I don't. If I were worried about appearances, I would mount an inexpensive PID controller to use as a readout in the case and run a 36 gauge TC wire from the grouphead to it. Eric bought a box of controllers and may have some left if you wish to go this route. I bought one myself, but haven't bothered installing it yet. The Fluke 54-II sits to the left of the espresso machine, obscured behind the grinder, so really I'm the only one who notices it.

Of course Valentina has a small advantage of a "cowling" overtop the E61 grouphead, so discreetly running the thermocouple wiring through the machine and out the back was a two minute job. The same neatness for a fully exposed grouphead would require more thought, but it wouldn't be difficult.

I used the ugly TC shown in this picture because it was handy. But I later replaced it with a much more discreet 36 gauge wire that can be routed easily out of sight.
